Los Angeles Experiences Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only One Week Following Severe Winter Weather.
Following a week of heavy downpours that caused flooding across sections of the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unusually warm weather for the end of February.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the mercury reached 91°F (33°C) in central LA, according to the National Weather Service. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on official graphics for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service cautioned that Friday's heat posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their advice included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Dramatic Reversal
This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a intense storm system that struck the area recently. That storm delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents.
Unfortunately, the storm also caused a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.
Temperatures Easing
The outlook suggests some relief is coming. Readings were predicted to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by late Friday.
Additional areas that hit 90°F were Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were forecast to see the high 80s.
For the weekend, central Los Angeles can expect weather in the eighties, with cooler weather expected for the following week.
