New information has come to light about the shocking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.

The Alarm

According to a report referencing a confidential source, a therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after being unable to gain access the residence. This individual then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides in the vicinity.

When she went into the home, Romy came upon her father's body. It is said she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had accompanied her contacted 911. Subsequently, first responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Developments

The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently detained and is ineligible for bail.

Clarifications

The person close to the family questioned several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the grounds, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.

Additionally disputed circulated claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "apprehensive" about Nick's actions in recent weeks. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement applies to accounts of alleged "erratic" behavior by Nick at a event thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the discovery. Although the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they said that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.

Investigation Details

According to law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been dead for a number of hours.

Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the scene. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
