The British designer Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
