The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I won't manage another team on English soil. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, that means I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this individually is not easy. Impossible.”
