The Gory Animated Movie Conclusion That Haunts Fans
Out of all the mature animated films I’ve personally viewed, nothing has remained with me quite like the fear-filled ending of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spain-based filmmaker crafted a dark, melancholy , often savage universe with some tiny , desolate hints of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a drive to expand the medium further, the filmmaker stated that it was more an attempt to express a global, cross-cultural theme concerning “the shared root of all wars.”
That idea is expressed by means of a band of colorful pastel bears , obviously modeled after a famous series of lovable figures.
Maturing in a community built around aggression and the defense industry, a lot of these creatures are fixated on exterminating unicorns, due to a holy book that tells them they used to be masters of the forest, before the unicorns drove them out.
Others haven’t fully accepted the indoctrination, , choose to experiment with substances or fornicate in the forest.
In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these vivid animals show sexual organs and clear libidos.
For a particular notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the battle with unicorns transforms into a route toward dominance — and specifically to dominance over his more tender, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
The character acts as a tormentor and an obvious psychopath , and when fear takes over his squad and kills his fellow soldiers individually, he takes increasingly control personally, in increasingly violent, harmful methods.
At the same time, the horned creatures are experiencing their own horror, through a growing, destructive monster in their woods.
“Initially, it seems like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it becomes a more intense and melancholic film. And in the finale, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to one of the more playful movies by a legendary filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Then it turns into something more like a darker film by that same artist, with increasingly visual gore and a noticeable connection to the real horror of battle.
In the finale, it becomes an outright theatrical horror bloodbath.
The terror that turns the film an ideal spooky-season movie begins well before than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated gorehounds, for lovers of intense movies who wish to see a film they’ve never watched previously, and who can handle a plot that offers unflinching brutality.
