The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger About Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all users about the change.
Digital Channels Response
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to check their listings and manually change the size if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
