Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular program wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
