World Series Final Game Captures 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended clash where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
